I loved your email on the fun and fabulous life in a "fishbowl." I was reminded of one of our favorite movies, "Finding Nemo." There is a scene in that movie that plays over and over again in my mind. It's when Nemo's father is getting discouraged that he and Dory will never find his son Nemo. Dory who has severe memory loss (I so identify with her!) tells Nemo's father, "Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming, just keep swimming. . ." I laugh every time I think of that one small scene. So . . .just keep swimming, swimming, swimming, just keep swimming.

Although living in any kind of fishbowl may not be FUN! It is a holy calling that is not for whimps!!! Man you will drown or be eaten alive from the preditors swimming around just waiting to smell blood! Being a living sacrifice means so many different things to people, but wherever God calls us, may our lives be to God and everyone around us pure worship.

Good subject! Thanks for sharing. It is insightful. Although I am not overseas...I am in the midwest as an anglo working with latinos. There are not alot of 'me's here! It is good to get perspective from others doing the same type of work!

You are right when you say these experiences can be helpful. They let us in on what the culture is! I do this too when I am with people from the other culture learning my language. I can then learn a bit more about what their words mean. When they use a word 'wrong' in our language, it makes me think...why? and gives insight on how that word in Spanish might have some meanings that I didn't know about or better ways of using it than I knew. You go beyond surface issues!!
